End devices

This is the final part of the installation, the end devices. These are either the things sending the impulses (Sensors like motion sensors, timers, etc.) or the once receiving impulses (Actuators like lights, speakers, etc.). By installing them to your paper UI, you can use them to make rules in vs-code. 

TP link smart plug

  • In openhab, paperUI, add-ons, install the tp-link binding

  • Install the smart-plug through the TP link setup menu in your network

  • PaperUI will detect your smart plug

  • Your smart plug will show up in the inbox

  • Add your smart plug

  • Your smart plug will show up in the things directory

  • You can edit the name of the smart plug by pressing the pencil

  • Make an switch item by pressing the icon in front of the name

  • Your item will show up in the item directory

  • By pressing the pencil next to the item you can change the name of the item and add it to a group.

Philips Hue lights

  • Install the Hue bridge to connect the lamps to internet

  • Download the Philips Hue app

  • Add your lights by searching or by adding the serial number found on the lamp

  • In openhab, paperUI, add-ons, install the Hue binding

  • PaperUI will detect your bridge

  • Add bridge as a thing

  • Pair the bridge using the pairing button on the front panel of the bridge

  • Openhab detects your philips Hue lights

  • Add the lamp as a thing

  • Press the blue icon in from of the channel and link your channel to an item

  • label the item with the name of the location of your device.

Philips Hue sensor

  • Remove the transparent tag to activate the battery

  • press the setup button with a paperclip

  • The Hue app will find the sensor by itself

  • In openhab, paperUI, Inbox you will find the hue sensors (ambient light, motion and temperature)

  • Press the blue v and add the sensors as a thing

KNX

  • Download ETS software to program your KNX bus.

  • Set the bus adress of your IP gateway (example 1.1.11 through 1.1.16)

  • Set the adress of your actor

  • Set the bus adress of your input KNX device

  • Make group adresses of what you like to control

  • example first number the location in the building (first floor, ground floor, cellar)

  • example second number what you would like to control (lights, dvices etc)

  • example thirth number location of device (ceiling, table etc).

  • Group adres will be like 1/2/5

  • In openhab, paperUI, add-ons, install the KNX binding

  • Install the KNX gateway by setting the ip adress of your KNX ip gateway.

  • Set IP connection type to tunnel

  • Set your local adress to the ip adress of the openhab Pi

  • KNX FT 1.2 interface is only for a serial connection to your KNX bus. You don't need to install this.

  • KNX device set the adress to the bus adress openhab can use and is allocated by your KNX gateway.

  • Now you can define your channels, by pressing channels 

  • Set Channel type to how openhab controles the KNX group adress

  • Give a openhab name of the channel at channel-ID

  • Give a name for your device at label

  • Channel configuration, set the group address of the KNX device.

  • Press the blue icon in from of the channel and link your channel to an item

  • label the item with the name of the location of your device.

TIME controle

  • In openhab, paperUI, add-ons, install the NTP binding and the ASTRO binding

  • In the inbox you will find the local time, add as a thing.

  • In the inbox you will find local moon and local sun, add as a thing

Precense detection of your phone

  • In openhab, paperUI, add-ons, install the Network binding

  • Go to inbox, press the blue + button to add a device

  • press networkbindings

  • press add manually

  • Pingable networkdevices

  • fill in the ip adress of your phone

  • add the device

SONOS player

  • Download the Sonos app

  • Add speaker

  • follow the instruction on your screen

  • In openhab, paperUI, add-ons, install the SONOS binding

  • In the inbox you will find the connected Sonos devices

  • Add your sonos speaker as a thing

  • By pressing the pencil next to the item you can change the name of the item and add it to a group.
